- I agree with you in some respects and disagree in others. Some of the
- regulars in this group do lack tact and might be a little short on
- manners, but overall it's not as bad as you make it out to be. On topic
- questions are answered. Wrong answers are flamed, and rightly so. Most
- off topic posts are flamed, and that may not be viewed as a good thing.
- I have mixed feelings about it. Looking at comp.lang.c++, it seems
- anything goes over there. They discuss specific compilers, OS's, etc..
- It's total chaos. This group is very focused. There's very little spam,
- and questions almost always get a very thorough treatment from some
- pretty bright people. If you have a question about DOS, go to the DOS
- programmer group. Windows? UNIX? I think it's perfectly appropriate to
- direct people to these groups when they're asking platform specific
- questions. Their questions have a much better chance of being answered
- correctly in those groups.
- I must admit that I don't find this group terribly interesting at times. I
- like C and I've used it for a long time, but watching these standards
- debates is like watching mud dry. I'd like to see discussions about the
- projects people have worked on. Lessons learned, programming styles,
- project organization, stuff like that. I find people's real world experience
- with C (or any language) very interesting. I know there are plenty of
- people out there that have worked on some amazing pieces of software.
- Is there a group for stuff like this? I haven't found it if there is.
